Dr. Thazha has over 12 years of medical experience in anesthesiology and critical care medicine.
Dr. Thazha obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from Government Medical College, Calicut, Kerala, India, in 2007. He later completed his Diplomate of National Board in Anesthesiology (DNB) at the Academy of Medical Sciences, Pariyaram, India, in 2013. He further advanced his expertise by completing the Indian Diploma in Critical Care Medicine (IDCCM) at Baby Memorial Hospital, Calicut, India, in 2014.
Dr. Thazha has extensive experience in anesthesiology and critical care across multiple healthcare systems including India, Saudi Arabia, and humanitarian medical missions abroad. His clinical work includes providing anesthesia for a wide range of surgical procedures and managing critically ill patients in intensive care settings. He is skilled in regional anesthesia techniques including spinal and epidural anesthesia, ultrasound-guided nerve blocks, pediatric and neonatal anesthesia, and labor analgesia. His experience also includes advanced airway management, central and peripheral venous access, arterial cannulation and monitoring, and perioperative patient management. In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr. Thazha has contributed to research in anesthesiology and has been involved in international humanitarian healthcare initiatives.
Prior to joining Sheikh Sultan Bin Zayed Hospital, Dr. Thazha worked as a Consultant in Anesthesiology at Aster DM Healthcare in Kannur, Kerala, India. Earlier in his career, he served as Specialist Anesthesiologist and Head of the Intensive Care Unit at Jeddah National Hospital in Saudi Arabia, where he also contributed to national accreditation initiatives and coordinated activities related to organ transplantation programs.
Dr. Thazha’s scope of practice includes anesthetic management for surgical procedures, regional anesthesia techniques including spinal and epidural anesthesia, ultrasound-guided nerve blocks, perioperative patient monitoring, airway management including advanced and surgical airway procedures, vascular access and invasive monitoring, and multidisciplinary critical care management for patients requiring intensive care support.
Prior to joining Sheikh Sultan Bin Zayed Hospital, Dr. Pillai served as Lead Physician and Intensivist at Long Term Medical and Rehabilitation Hospital in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates. Earlier in his career, he worked as Acting Consultant in the Intensive Care Unit at Al Ain Hospital, Specialist Senior Registrar in the Surgical ICU at Rashid Hospital Trauma Center in Dubai, Specialist Intensivist at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City in Abu Dhabi, and Senior Specialist Intensivist at Al Jazeira and Central Hospitals under the Ministry of Health in Abu Dhabi.
