Dr. Karam Al Hakeem has nearly a decade of medical experience in internal medicine, emergency medicine, and critical care, including over five years of clinical practice in the United Arab Emirates.
Dr. Al Hakeem obtained his Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the Faculty of Medicine at Damascus University, Syria. He subsequently completed 3 years of internal medicine training at Damascus University Hospitals and earned the Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians (MRCP), United Kingdom.
Dr. Al Hakeem has extensive experience in the diagnosis and management of acute and chronic medical conditions across inpatient, outpatient, emergency, and critical care settings. His clinical expertise includes the management of acute medical admissions, inpatient ward care, multidisciplinary treatment planning, and the stabilization of critically ill patients. He is experienced in evidence-based clinical decision-making, patient safety, discharge planning, and continuity of care. His procedural skills include central venous catheter insertion, lumbar puncture, diagnostic abdominal paracentesis, bladder catheterization, electrocardiogram (ECG) interpretation, wound suturing, and the interpretation of laboratory and radiological investigations.
Prior to joining Sheikh Sultan Bin Zayed Hospital, Dr. Al Hakeem worked as a Senior General Practitioner in Outpatient and Transitional Care at Prime Healthcare Group and Al-Futtaim Healthcare in the United Arab Emirates, where he managed semi-acute and transitional care patients, coordinated acute referrals, and supported inpatient medical management. Earlier in his career, he served as an Internal Medicine Registrar at Burjeel Specialty Hospital in Sharjah, where he managed acute medical admissions, participated in daily ward rounds, and cared for patients in both the Internal Medicine Department and Emergency Department. He also completed 3 years of his Internal Medicine residency training at Damascus University Hospitals in Syria, gaining extensive experience in intensive care medicine and emergency medicine.
